M. M. Silk Mills

If you have ever been to the Surat Textile Market on Ring Road you know how busy it gets. Our shop M. M. Silk Mills is tucked away at L-1064 inside that massive building. It’s a place filled with rolls of fabric and the smell of new textiles. We spend most of our day surrounded by silk and different materials that come through the market. The Ring Road area is always jammed with traffic and people carrying bundles of cloth on their shoulders or on little carts. Inside the market it’s like its own world with rows and rows of shops just like ours. We have been working out of this unit for a long time and the space is packed with stock from floor to ceiling. Customers come in looking for specific things and we spend time pulling out different rolls to show them the patterns. It is dusty work sometimes and your hands get tired from handling all the fabric but it is what we do. The lighting in these market stalls isn't always the best but we know our stock well enough to find what is needed. We don't have a lot of room for a fancy sitting area so it is mostly just a counter and the shelves. Sometimes the heat in the market is a bit much in the afternoon but we just keep the fans going and stay busy with the orders.
