M. B. Exporters

Down here in Malad West, specifically at Ganga Sadan in Adarsh Society, things are always moving. M. B. Exporters is a compact operation on B.J. Patel Road. It’s mostly just us surrounded by stacks of paperwork and samples that need to go out. The fans hum all day because the Mumbai heat doesn’t really let up. We spend a lot of our time on the phone or typing out emails to people in different time zones. It’s not a glamorous office by any means. There’s usually a stack of chai glasses on the side table by mid-afternoon. We deal with various goods, making sure things get from point A to point B without getting stuck at the docks for too long. Sometimes the courier is late, or a supplier forgets a document, and we have to scramble. That’s just part of the export life. The society we are in is quite old-fashioned, so you hear the neighbors and the local street sounds all day long. We know the guys at the local Xerox shop and the tea stall pretty well. It’s a bit of a maze getting here if you aren’t used to the Malad side streets, anyway. We just keep our heads down and get the shipping orders filled. It’s practical work, and we don't have much time for anything else besides the logistics. It is what it is, and we just keep the business going one day at a time.
