Living and working in Surat means things are always moving fast. Our glass shop is right in the middle of it all. Working with mirrors is a bit different than other jobs because you have to be so precise. One wrong move and you’ve got a mess of broken glass on the floor. We spend a lot of time cleaning surfaces and making sure there aren't any scratches. It’s a lot of manual work, even though people might think it’s easy. We have our tools laid out on the benches and there is usually a layer of fine dust from the edges we smooth down. It’s not a big corporate setup. It’s just a local workshop where we take measurements and cut pieces to size. Sometimes we have to carry big sheets of glass through narrow spaces, which is always a bit nerve-wracking. We don't really have a lot of decorations on the walls because we need the space for storage. People come to us when they need a replacement mirror for their home or something custom for a shop. We try to be careful with every piece because we know how easily glass can get ruined. It’s a steady trade and it keeps us busy enough. You can usually find us in the back working on a frame or checking the latest shipment for any cracks. The city is noisy, but once you’re inside with the glass, you just focus on the cut.
