Friends Telecom is located on Rander Ashram Road, at U 5. We’ve been here for quite a while now. The name comes from how I wanted the shop to feel—just a place where friends can come for help with their phones. We do a lot of recharges and bill payments here. It’s a small operation, really. Just a counter, some stools, and a lot of wires and cables hanging on the walls. Rander is a busy area, especially near Ashram Road, so there’s always someone walking past or popping in. I keep a stock of different cables and headphones because people always seem to be losing theirs or breaking them. I don’t have a huge selection of the newest phones, but I have what most people need for everyday use. Sometimes the internet goes down and we can’t process recharges right away, which is annoying for everyone involved. I just tell people to come back in an hour or so. That’s how it goes sometimes with technology. I handle the repairs myself, mostly small things like speakers or microphones that stopped working. I’ve got a small lamp on my desk in the corner for the detailed work. It’s a quiet kind of job most days, which I like. People in the neighborhood know me by name now, which is nice. I don't see the need for a big fancy shop. This one does the job and keeps things moving. We just take things one day at a time here.
