If you come to Lajpat Nagar 1st, you’ll find Satyam Fashion on the first floor of building A-171. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, especially when we’re carrying heavy bundles of cloth. The space isn’t huge, so we have to stay organized. We do a lot of traditional wear and everyday outfits. The tailors sit near the windows to get the best light. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for most of my life, so setting up shop here made sense. It’s a lively part of Delhi, and there’s always someone stopping by to ask about a stitch or a fabric. We don’t do big TV ads. Word of mouth is how most people hear about us. The iron is always hot and someone is always marking fabric with chalk. It gets noisy with the fans humming and the traffic outside, but we’re used to it. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back on. We try to keep things simple. Every piece that leaves this first-floor shop has been handled by at least three different people. We care about the thread color matching the fabric, things like that. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out, right here in Lajpat Nagar. We don't have fancy furniture, just good machines and people who know how to use them.
