Safdarjang Hospital

Being right on the Ring Road means it is never quiet at Safdarjang Hospital. The traffic noise is basically the soundtrack to our day. You can hear the trucks and cars zooming by from sunrise until late at night. Our building sits right there where everyone passes. It’s a massive place. If you’ve ever tried to park nearby, you know it’s a bit of a nightmare, but people find a way. We have folks coming in from all over the city and even from outside. The hallways are wide but they still feel small when there are hundreds of people moving through. We’ve got benches that are mostly full and some plants in the corners that we sometimes forget to water. It’s an old building in parts, with high ceilings and that specific hospital smell of floor cleaner and medicine. We spend a lot of time pointing people in the right direction because it’s easy to take a wrong turn. The staff here wears comfortable shoes because we spend hours on our feet. We don’t have a lot of time for sitting around talking. There is always a list of things to do or a patient waiting for a form. It’s a busy life on the Ring Road. We see all kinds of people every day. Some are worried, some are just tired, and we try to do what we can with the tools we have. It isn't perfect, but it is real life happening right here every single day. Things just keep moving forward.
