S. S. Steel Work

S. S. Steel Work is located at Plot No. 228 A in Okhla-1. We are in the Punjabi Mohalla part of Tekhand. This is an industrial area so there is always the sound of metal hitting metal. We do steel fabrication, making things like gates and window grills. The shop is full of scrap pieces and welding machines. It gets quite bright and loud when we are working. We wear our masks and just get on with it. Okhla is a tough place but it’s good for this kind of work. We have been here at this plot for a good amount of time. People in the mohalla know where to find us. We don't have a showroom or anything like that. You just come to the workshop and see what we are making. Sometimes we are out fitting a gate at a house nearby. The dust from the grinding is everywhere. We keep our tools organized as best as we can, but it’s a working shop, not a museum. Steel is heavy and it takes a lot of effort to move it around. We are just a few guys working hard to make things that last. We don’t talk much, we just focus on the welding. It’s a good trade. We like being in Tekhand. It’s where the real work happens. We hope the gates we make stand for a long time.
