If you walk through Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh, you’ll find us at Shop No 66. It’s a busy part of town and there’s always a lot of shouting and moving around. My name is Rajesh Kumar Upadhyay and this is where I spend most of my days. The shop isn’t very big, so we have to use every bit of space we have. Gaffar Market is famous for being crowded, and our spot is right in the middle of it all. We see all kinds of people walking by every minute. Most of the time, I’m just standing behind the counter or talking to the other shopkeepers nearby. It’s a lot of manual work and keeping track of what’s coming in and going out. The shop has been here through many seasons. It’s not a corporate place with uniforms; it’s just me and a couple of helpers sometimes. We get the dust from the street and the noise from the traffic, but that’s just Karol Bagh for you. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know the shop number and they come find us. It’s a simple way of doing things. We open early and stay until the market starts to thin out at night. It’s honest work and we’ve been doing it at number 66 for quite some time now. You just look for the sign among all the others on this street and you’ll see us there working hard.
