Polki Garments

Our unit is in Okhla Industrial Area, Phase-II. The address is F-28/5. If you know Okhla, you know how hectic it gets around here. There are trucks and rickshaws everywhere and the noise never really stops. We are on the ground floor mostly. Inside, it's always the sound of sewing machines and steam irons. We make a lot of garments and there’s always thread and scraps of fabric on the floor by the end of the shift. The lighting is bright so everyone can see their work clearly. We have a small corner for tea where we take breaks. It’s a hardworking place. Most of us have been in the garment trade for years. We aren't a big showroom with fancy displays. This is a production house. We worry more about getting the stitching right than how the front door looks. In the monsoon, the roads around here get a bit flooded, but we still make it in to get the orders done. It’s a tough area to work in sometimes because of the heat and the crowds, but it’s where the industry is. We keep the machines running and the piles of clothes moving out the door to the shops. It’s a lot of manual labor and long hours, but we are used to the rhythm of the place now. We just focus on getting the work finished every single day.
