Pakija Meat Shop

You can find us at F-2 on the School Wala Road in Khanpur. It’s a narrow street and when the school lets out, it gets really loud with all the kids running around. We have been here for a good bit now. The shop isn't very large, just enough space for the chopping blocks and the fridge. It gets hot in the summer, so we have a fan that rattles all day. We start work before the sun is even up to get the meat ready. A lot of the neighbors come by in the morning on their way to the vegetable market. We don't have fancy packaging or anything like that. We just wrap it up and that’s it. My hands are usually busy with the knives, so I don’t get much time to sit. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to worry about the cold storage, which is a bit of a stress. But mostly, it’s just a daily routine. People in Khanpur know this road well. It’s a bit of a messy job, but someone has to do it. We try to keep the place tidy but it’s a meat shop, so there’s always cleaning to do. I’ve got one guy who helps me with the deliveries if someone lives close by. It’s just a normal local shop, nothing more than that really. We just keep our heads down and work.
