Orient Fashion Exports (India) Pvt Ltd is located at E 45/14 in Okhla Phase 2. This specific part of the city is always packed with big trucks and delivery vans. You can hear the loud beeping of them backing up into loading bays all day. The building we are in is quite old, but it does the job just fine. We have a lot of sewing machines lined up and they make a rhythmic clanking sound that fills the whole floor. We work with a lot of paper patterns and white tailors' chalk. There’s always a bit of white dust on my trousers by the end of my shift. We aren't doing anything fancy or world-changing, just making sure the garments are put together the right way. The supervisor is a bit strict about the clock, but he’s a decent guy once you get to know him. We have a small dusty courtyard in the back where we can sit for ten minutes to get some fresh air. Most days are just a long blur of fabric, thread, and needles. We have big wooden tables where we spread everything out to check for any holes or bad seams. Sometimes we find a mistake in a whole batch and have to rip the thread out and start all over again. It’s really frustrating but that’s part of the job. We don’t have any fancy furniture. The desks are just old wooden ones.
