Malik Scrap Wale

If you head down Hanuman Mandir Road in Chirag Delhi, you’ll find us at 551A. Malik Scrap Wale is basically what the name says. We deal with all the stuff people don’t want anymore. It’s a messy business, to be honest. Our yard is usually full of old metal pipes, rusted iron sheets, and piles of wire that need sorting. It gets pretty dusty, especially when the wind picks up or the trucks are moving things around. We spend a lot of our time weighing things on the big scale and then moving them to the back. It’s heavy work and our hands are always dirty by lunchtime. The shop is right near the temple, so we hear the bells and the music throughout the day, which is actually quite nice when things get stressful. Sometimes people bring in old appliances that are totally broken, and we have to break them down further to get the copper out. It’s not a quiet place at all. There’s always the sound of metal hitting metal or someone shouting to be heard over the traffic outside. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a long time and everyone knows where the scrap shop is. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small stool and a notebook where we write down the weights. It’s just how we run things here on Hanuman Mandir Road.
