Kaaru

We are over in Lado Sarai at F-225A. If you know the area, it’s full of galleries and design shops, but Kaaru is more of a workshop than a gallery. We spend a lot of time with our hands dirty. There’s usually some project spread out across the floor and the smell of wood or paint in the air. We don’t really have a showroom where everything is perfect. It’s more about the process of making things. We have a small team of people who actually enjoy building stuff. Sometimes things don’t turn out right the first time, so we just start over until it looks okay. We don't have a receptionist; if the door is open, you just walk in and yell hello. Someone will usually pop out from the back. We started Kaaru because we wanted a place where we could just make things without someone telling us how to do it. It’s a bit disorganized at times, especially when we have a big order going out. There are scraps of material in the corners and sketches pinned to the walls. We don't spend money on fancy furniture for ourselves; we’d rather buy better tools. It’s a simple way of working. We like being in Lado Sarai because there are other people doing similar things nearby, but we mostly just stick to our own space and keep busy with the work at hand every day.
