Jain Super Store

Arjun Nagar is a busy little pocket of Safdarjung Enclave, and we’ve been here for years. The store is usually the first thing to open on our block. We start by dragging the crates of milk and bread inside before the sun is even fully up. It’s a typical neighborhood shop where the shelves are packed from floor to ceiling. We’ve got pulses in big jars, snacks hanging from the ceiling, and all the household stuff people realize they’ve run out of at the last minute. The floor is a bit worn down from all the feet walking in and out every day. We know most of the people who come in by their first names and what they usually buy. It gets crowded in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work, and the bell on the door doesn't stop ringing. Sometimes we run out of space and have to keep the extra sacks of flour in the small room at the back. It’s a bit of a juggle keeping everything organized so we can find things quickly when a customer is waiting. The cooling fridge for the drinks hums all day long, which is a sound you just get used to. We don't do anything fancy with the displays; we just put the stuff out where people can reach it. It’s a lot of standing and lifting, but it keeps us busy from morning to night.
