Irene Hospital

Irene Hospital is located at DD 23 in Kalkaji Extension, which is a fairly tight part of South Delhi. The streets around here are always full of cars and people selling things, so getting to our front door can be a bit of a squeeze. We’ve been in this building for quite a while, and it’s got that lived-in feel to it. It’s not one of those glass and steel hospitals you see on the news. We have a small lobby with some plastic chairs and a desk where we handle all the check-ins. Most of the people who come to see us are from right here in the neighborhood, so we see a lot of the same faces for check-ups and minor things. The nurses are usually busy chatting or sorting through medicine bottles, and the doctors are always moving between the rooms. We have a few floors, and the stairs are a bit steep, so we tell people to take their time. The air conditioning works okay, but on the really hot Delhi days, it struggles a bit. We don’t try to be anything we aren't; we are just a local hospital where you can get your blood pressure checked or stay for a few days if you’re feeling really sick. There is usually a bit of a wait, but people just talk to each other or look at their phones. It’s a simple, practical place to work and we just try to keep things moving along. It’s just us here, doing the daily medical work.
