Our place is over on Okhla Road. It’s officially the Heart Institute and Research Centre, but to most of us, it’s just the hospital where we spend our days. Okhla Road is always moving, and we move right along with it. We do a lot of specialized work here. You’ll see people in scrubs rushing around with papers or tablets. It’s a bit more technical than your average clinic because of the research side. We have labs and rooms full of equipment that hums all night long. Even so, it’s a human place. We have a small canteen where the coffee is actually pretty good if you get it fresh. People come from all over the country to get help here, which is a bit humbling. We don't have much time for fluff or fancy brochures. The doctors are often tired but they stay until the job is finished. You can see the city life right outside the windows, but inside we stay focused on what’s happening in the wards. It’s a busy, complicated place, but we try to keep things organized. There’s a lot of history in these walls on Okhla Road. We’ve seen a lot of people go home feeling much better than when they arrived, and that’s really what keeps the lights on and the doors open. We just keep trying to do better for every person that comes through.
