Eme Metal Works

Our workshop is tucked away on Barai Street, right near the Khirki Gate area. If you know where the Gurudwara is, you’ve probably walked right past us. It’s a narrow street, so getting stuff in and out can be a bit of a headache sometimes, especially when the market is crowded. The sounds from the Gurudwara are quite nice to hear while we’re working on the metal pieces. We’ve been here in this part of town for a long time. It’s an old building, nothing fancy at all. We have the usual machines for the metal work, and they take up most of the space. My father started things here, and not much has changed since then. We know almost everyone on the street. In the mornings, we sweep the front and get the machines warmed up. Some days are slower than others, but there’s always something to fix or weld. The lighting inside isn't the best, so we leave the big doors open most of the day for the sun. Sometimes the tea man comes by with snacks, and we take a quick break. It gets pretty dusty with all the metal shavings, but that’s just part of the job. It’s a decent place to spend the day. We don’t really have a sign that stands out, but people in the neighborhood know where Eme Metal Works is located.
