Currently Not Working

This place is on the second floor of the DDA Flats in Madangir, New Delhi. It’s at 29 931, which is easy to find once you get used to how the blocks are numbered. Currently Not Working is the way it’s written down for me. The flat is not very big, but it’s enough for what I need. Being on the second floor is good because I don’t get all the dust from the street, but I still have to climb a lot of stairs. The neighbors are mostly people who have lived here for decades. You can hear televisions playing through the walls and kids playing cricket in the lanes below. I don’t have a formal office setup. I just use the main room for everything. It’s a very ordinary life. I go to the local market for vegetables and chat with the shopkeepers. The fan in my room makes a clicking sound that I’ve grown used to over the years. It’s not the kind of place you’d see in a magazine, but it’s real. I spend my time reading or just looking out the window at the other flats. Everyone here is just trying to get by. I’m not doing anything special or fancy. I’m just here in Madangir, living day to day without a regular job to go to every morning.
