If you ever find yourself in the Okhla Industrial Area, you might pass by us at B-24/2. This is where Avon Steel Industries India is based. It’s a pretty standard industrial plot, nothing much to look at from the outside, but it stays busy. We’ve got the heavy machines running most of the time and the sound of steel being moved around is just part of the background here. I’ve been working here for years and the neighborhood has changed a lot, but our little corner stays pretty much the same. We don’t go in for fancy signs or big office parties. Mostly, it’s just us and the guys on the floor making sure the orders are ready when the trucks pull up. The dust from the road gets everywhere, so we are always cleaning off the desks, but that’s just life in Okhla. We have a small crew and most of them have been with us since the start. We know each other’s families and how everyone likes their chai. It’s not a corporate setup where no one knows your name. We just focus on the steel. When things get hectic, we just put our heads down and get through the list. It’s a long day sometimes, especially when the heat is bad, but we like the work. There’s a certain rhythm to the place that feels right after all these years of doing this.
