If you walk through Chittaranjan Park Market No.1, you’ll find us at Shop No 9. We do a few different things here. The sweet shop part keeps us very busy in the mornings because everyone wants fresh stuff early on. We make the traditional sweets right in the back, so the smell of sugar and ghee is always around. Then there is the catering and tent side of things. We have a lot of heavy stuff stored away for when someone has a wedding or a big party nearby. Moving those big tents and heavy wooden tables isn't easy, especially when the market gets crowded with shoppers. My uncle started this place and we just keep it going. We aren't trying to be some big corporate brand; we just like making sure the food is hot and the tents are up on time. Sometimes the flower decorations take longer than we expect, but we stay until it’s finished. You’ll usually see one of us sitting out front near the sweets counter or checking the inventory for the next event. We use old recipes for the food because that’s what people around here like. It’s a lot of physical labor, cleaning the chairs and washing the linens after every use, but it’s honest work. We know most of the faces in the market by now and they know us, which makes the long days better.
