A. V. Enginearing Company is situated at 1359/8 in Govind Puri, Kalkaji. This part of Delhi is always crowded and noisy, which is just the way it is. Our workshop is in one of the narrow lanes. It’s a small space where we do all our engineering and repair work. The floor is made of concrete and it’s usually covered with metal scraps and oil. We have some old machines that have been with us for a long time, and they still work better than the new ones sometimes. It’s a bit dark inside the shop, so we use some old lamps to see what we are doing on the benches. We don't have an office with air conditioning. We just have a fan that moves the hot air around during the summer. We are right in the middle of a very busy residential and commercial mix. Finding a place to park even a bike is hard here. We know everyone in the lane, from the tea seller to the other mechanics. We don't do any advertising. People just know we are here and they bring their work to us. It’s a very hands-on job. We get our clothes dirty every single day and our hands are never really clean. We just focus on the metal parts and making sure they are the right size. It’s a simple, hardworking life in Govind Puri. We just do the jobs as they come through the door.
