Hotel Shompen

You can find us at 2, Middle Point, which is a central part of the town here. The air is usually pretty humid, being on an island, so we spend a lot of time fighting off the dampness in the building. Hotel Shompen has been around for a long time, and the structure has seen its fair share of storms. We have a few different floors, and the stairs are a bit steep, so we tell people to watch their step. The rooms are simple with white walls and basic furniture that we bought locally. Most of our staff grew up right here in the 744101 area, so they know the best places to get fish or where to catch the ferry. We don't have a lot of high-tech gadgets; we mostly rely on our notebooks to keep track of who is in which room. Sometimes the internet goes out when the weather is bad, but that’s just how it is here. We have a little area where people can sit and talk, and there’s usually a breeze if you leave the windows open. The paint on the exterior needs a touch-up every year because of the salt in the air. We aren't trying to be a five-star place, just a decent spot for travelers to rest their heads while they explore the islands. It’s a quiet life most of the time.
