Out on Sampla Road in Kharkhauda, you’ll find our school. It’s a bit of a drive if you’re coming from the main part of Sonepat, but for the people living around here, we’re right in the thick of things. Being a senior secondary school means we have the older kids who are almost adults and the younger ones who are still just starting out. It makes for a loud and busy atmosphere most days. The building is solid and has been standing for quite some time now. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles, just the basic stuff you need for a school to run properly. In the summers, the heat on Sampla Road can be really something, so we’re always making sure the fans are spinning and there’s enough water for everyone. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we all know each other’s families and habits. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find a lot of fancy technology or high-end furniture. We just have the standard wooden benches and blackboards that have served us well for a long time. The playground is just a patch of land where the boys play cricket and the girls sit and talk during lunch. It’s a practical place, really. We just show up, do our jobs, and help the kids get through their exams. That’s pretty much the story of Pratap Singh Memorial and how we do things here.
