Goutam Rice Mills

Out here in Village Rohira, things move at their own pace. Goutam Rice Mills is just one of those places that has been part of the landscape for years. If you come by, you’ll see the tall structures and the piles of husks near the back. It’s a dirty job, and by the end of the shift, everyone is covered in a fine layer of dust. We don’t mind it much anymore. The machinery we use is old but it still runs if you treat it right. Sometimes the power goes out and we just have to sit around and wait for it to come back on. Those are the times we sit on the wooden benches outside and just talk. Goutam Rice Mills isn't trying to be the biggest or the most modern place. We just want to get through the load we have for the day. Village Rohira is a good spot for us because it’s easy for people to find. The floors are concrete and they've got cracks in them from years of heavy loads being dragged across. We don’t have a receptionist or anyone to answer phones all day. Usually, if the phone rings, someone has to wipe their hands and run to the small side room to pick it up. It’s a practical life. We work hard, we eat our lunch in the shade, and we go home. That's the whole story of this mill. Nothing special.
