Ilayangudi Higher Secondary School

Ilayangudi Higher Secondary School is situated on the road that connects Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, and Melur. We are specifically in the Keelayur area. The school has a long history in this region, and many of the people living around here attended classes in these same rooms when they were younger. The campus is spread out with several blocks connected by covered walkways. It gets very hot in this part of the state, so we have a lot of trees planted around the compound to provide some shade for the students during their breaks. The buildings are older, with high ceilings and heavy wooden doors. Our daily schedule starts quite early to beat the midday sun. In the office, we have rows of wooden cupboards filled with old registers and student records going back decades. The staff room is a place where teachers share their tiffin and talk about local news. It is a very grounded environment. We do not have any modern glass buildings or air-conditioned rooms. Instead, we have large fans and open corridors. The noise from the main road is always there in the background, but inside the gates, it feels a bit more secluded. It is just a local institution that has become a permanent fixture for the families in Keelayur and the surrounding rural stretches.
