You can find Chandankheda Farmer Producer Company at Kishor Thawari’s house, which is number 82 in the village. Chandankheda is in the Bhadravati taluka, and most of us have lived here since we were children. We started this group because it was getting harder and harder to make a profit from farming by ourselves. Now we try to manage things as a team. We don’t have an office with air conditioning or fancy desks. We just sit around at Kishor’s place with our ledgers and some tea. It’s a lot of work keeping track of what everyone has grown and where it’s all going. Sometimes the paperwork gets confusing, but we help each other out. We deal with whatever the season brings, whether it’s soy or wheat or other crops. The village roads are narrow, so getting the trucks in and out is always a bit of a challenge. We don't have any big corporate goals. We just want to get a fair price for our hard work in the fields. Life here is simple and moves at its own pace. We know every farmer in the area and we try to do what’s best for the group. It’s not always easy, but we’ve stuck together through the good years and the bad ones. That’s just how we do things in Chandankheda. We keep an old radio in the corner, though we don’t listen to it much. It’s mostly just the sound of people talking and the occasional bird outside.
