Katyani Farmers Producer Company Limited is based in the Samuliya area of Powayan, right here in Shahjahanpur. We work out of Sarita Singh’s place. It is a rural setting, which is exactly where we need to be to stay close to the farms. We started this because we saw a need for farmers to have their own organization. Most of our days are spent dealing with the practicalities of agriculture. We don't have a big fancy office with air conditioning. It is just a room where we keep our records and meet with the local growers. The weather in Uttar Pradesh can be tough on the crops, so we spend a lot of time discussing how to handle the heat or the rain. We focus on getting the produce from the fields to the buyers without too many middle-men getting in the way. It is a slow process to build something like this, and we’ve had our fair share of mistakes along the way. But we learn as we go. We aren't experts in business, we are experts in our own land. We just want to make sure the people in Samuliya have a fair shot at selling what they grow. It’s about being practical and helping each other out when things get difficult. There is no corporate polish here, just a lot of hard work and trying to make ends meet for the local families.
