We are over at house number 379 in Hathaura Buzurg, Roza. Shahjahanpur Agro Mahila Farmer Producercompany Limited is a bit different because it's mostly the women from around here taking charge of things. We work out of a house in the village because it’s easier for everyone to get to. It’s a busy place. There is always someone coming by with a question or some news about the crops. We keep our records in a simple way and make sure everything is accounted for. Life in Roza is centered around the farm cycles. We spend our days balancing the work at home with the work for the company. It’s not a sleek business operation. It’s real life. We have meetings where the kids are running around and there is plenty of tea being served. We focus on the practical side of agriculture. We help each other out with the logistics of selling and buying. It gets loud and crowded sometimes in the small office room. Hathaura Buzurg is our home and we want to see it do well. We aren't using any big corporate strategies. We just talk to each other and decide what makes sense for the season. It’s about being independent and making sure our families are taken care of through the land. We’ve been doing this for a while now and we just keep at it every day. It feels good to have something of our own in this village.
