New Janta Nursery

The nursery is out on Ludhiana Road. If you pass the Sita Grammar School, you’ve basically found us. We spend most of our time outside with the plants, so our boots are always muddy. New Janta Nursery isn't a big commercial garden center. It's more of a family thing we’ve kept going. We grow things that work in our local soil. We don’t have those plastic-looking plants you see in the mall. Everything here is real and takes a lot of watering and weeding. Sometimes the heat gets to us, but the shade under the big trees helps. We have a small shed where we keep the tools and seeds. People come by mostly on weekends looking for something for their backyard or maybe a gift. We don’t have a sales pitch. If a plant looks healthy, it sells itself. I’ve lived around here my whole life and I know the weather can be tricky. We try to grow stuff that can survive the dry spells. It’s hard work, bending over all day and carrying bags of soil, but it’s what we know. My hands are never clean, and that’s fine with me. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just see the sign on the road and pull over. We’re usually around from sunrise until it gets too dark to see the rows. We just like seeing things grow and helping people pick the right tree.
