Out in Village Hirapur, on Siyana Road, you will find Hutatma Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh Maryadit. It is a cooperative, so it is owned by the people who actually do the work. We have been part of the Kolhapur dairy scene for many years. It is a big name, but we are just regular folks from the village. Every morning, farmers from around Hirapur and Nayagaon bring their milk here. It is a lot of noise, with cans clanking and people talking all at once. We do not have any corporate executives in fancy suits. Instead, we have board members who are also farmers. The building is a sturdy one, built to handle the constant flow of milk. It is a bit of a trek to get out here, but this is where the heart of the work is. We focus on getting the milk processed and sent out to the cities. There is always something to fix, whether it is a leaky pipe or a computer glitch in the weighing station. We take pride in what we do, but we do not feel the need to shout about it. Life in the village moves at its own pace, even if the dairy is always busy. We share a lot of tea and conversation during the breaks. It is a community effort, plain and simple. We have been here through good seasons and bad, and we just keep going. That is how we do things in Hirapur.
