Out in Budhgaon, near Miraj, you’ll find us at Milestone Number 925. Greenleef Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited is where a lot of us local farmers get together to handle the business side of things. Farming is what we know best, but the selling and the paperwork can get a bit overwhelming if you try to do it all by yourself. We use the spot at Post Budhgaon to organize our harvests and make sure everything is being grown the organic way. It’s not always pretty—there’s usually some mud on the floor and stacks of crates waiting to be moved—but it’s an honest place. We don’t have a receptionist or a fancy lobby. If you come by, you’ll likely find one of us on the phone or checking the latest weather reports. We’ve all been working these lands for a long time, and we decided that going organic was the best way to keep the soil from getting tired. It takes a lot of manual labor to keep the weeds down without using chemicals, and we all have the sore backs to prove it. But when the crops come in and they look healthy, it feels like we’re doing something right. We’re just a group of people from the Miraj area trying to make an honest living and keep our traditions going while adapting to the way things are now. We aren't perfect, but we work hard.
