Gandhi Traders

Our shop is at number 22 on Av Iyer Street in the Shevapet area. If you know the neighborhood, you know it gets really crowded during the market hours. We’ve been trading here for quite a long time, and the building itself is showing its age a little bit, but it serves us well. We deal in all sorts of goods that we keep stacked on the high shelves. I usually spend my mornings checking the inventory and seeing what the delivery trucks have brought in from the outskirts. The street is narrow, so it’s always a bit of a struggle for the drivers to back their vehicles up to our door without hitting something. We know all the other shopkeepers on this block, so we often stand outside and talk while we’re waiting for customers to show up. It’s a very local way of doing things. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; we still like our paper notebooks for keeping track of who owes what. The ceiling is high and it stays relatively cool in the back where we keep the bulk items. It’s a lot of lifting and carrying, which keeps us in decent shape. We don’t try to be something we’re not. We’re just a basic trading business in a busy part of town, trying to keep the shelves full so that when someone walks in, we have exactly what they need.
