Tata Bricks Field

Tata Bricks Field is out in Chilkana village, not too far from the police station in Sarsawa taluka. It’s a wide-open space where we spend our days working with the earth. It’s a lot of physical labor, starting with the raw clay and ending with the fired bricks. The weather pretty much dictates what we do each day. If it’s too wet, we can’t mold the bricks, and if it’s too hot, the kilns are even harder to manage. We have a small crew here, and we all know our roles. It’s not the kind of job where you stay clean. By the end of the day, everything is covered in a layer of dust. We live and work close to the village, so we see the same faces all the time. Being near the Chilkana police station makes it easy for people to give directions to our field. We don’t have any big offices or air conditioning. Most of our paperwork happens on a wooden table in a small shack at the edge of the property. We just focus on getting the stacks ready for whoever needs them for their building projects. It’s been this way for a long time now. The rhythm of the work follows the seasons. We aren't trying to be anything other than a local brick field doing what we know how to do. Sometimes the trucks get stuck in the mud, but we help them out.
