Paras Brick Field

Our place is located at House Number 1833, right near Jubilee Park and the Nehru Market. There is an HP petrol pump close by, so it's a landmark we tell everyone. We’ve been running this brick field for a few years now. It’s a busy area, being so close to the market. We have piles of bricks sitting out in the yard, waiting for the tractors. The ground is usually red from the dust. We work according to the seasons. In the summer, the heat from the kilns is almost too much, but we have to keep them going. We have a small team of workers who live nearby. They know the routine of mixing the mud and filling the molds. It’s hard on the hands and the back. I usually spend my time talking to customers or checking the fuel for the fires. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the narrow lanes near the market. That's always a headache to sort out. We don’t have a website or any of that fancy stuff. People just come by because they’ve seen our bricks at other building sites. We try to keep the quality decent, but every batch is a bit different because of the soil. It’s just real work for real people. We stay busy enough to keep the fires burning. It’s a decent life here by the park. The market noise keeps things interesting through the day.
