Our little spot is at Booth Number-141 in Phase-3B2, Mohali. It’s right across from the Sachadhan Gurudwara, which is a big landmark around here. If you know the area, you know how busy it gets, especially during the times when people are heading to the gurudwara. The booth itself isn’t very big, so things can get a bit tight when a few people come in at once. We handle a lot of currency exchange and travel stuff. There are always maps or brochures lying around and the sound of the calculator clicking away. Dealing with foreign money means we have to stay sharp and keep an eye on the numbers all day. We’ve been in this part of Chandigarh for a while, and we’ve gotten to know the other shop owners on the row quite well. Sometimes we stand outside the door for a bit of fresh air when the shop is quiet. The office is pretty basic—just a counter, some chairs, and the computer. People come in looking to plan trips or get cash for their holidays, and we just do our best to help them out with the paperwork and the rates. It’s a simple business, really. We just show up every morning, open the shutters, and see who the day brings in. It’s steady work and we like being part of the local market.
