Bjs Public School

Bjs Public School is out in Village Samundrian, which is near the post office in Khera, Kalmot. It is a bit of a drive to get here since it is in the Tehsil of Anandpur Sahib, but the air is clean and it is away from the city noise. The school building is simple, with high ceilings and big windows to let the breeze in. Most of the kids who come here are from the surrounding farms and villages. They arrive on the yellow buses or sometimes their fathers drop them off on motorcycles. We have a playground that is mostly just dirt and grass, but the children don't seem to mind when they are playing football during the break. The classrooms have basic furniture and we keep the walls decorated with drawings the students made in their art classes. It can get quite dusty during the dry months, so we are always sweeping the floors. The teachers live nearby and they know all the families, so it feels like a small community here. We don't have any high-tech gadgets, just books and boards and the noise of kids learning their lessons. Lunchtime is the loudest part of the day when everyone opens their containers under the trees. It is a humble place, just a local school doing what it needs to do for the children in this part of the country.
