Shiva Sagar Vidyalaya

Out on Saiput Road in Tandur, Shiva Sagar Vidyalaya is where a lot of the local kids spend their mornings. The area is pretty straightforward, and the school fits right in with the surrounding houses and small shops. Every morning starts with the sound of the bell, and then you hear the students reciting their lessons or singing during the assembly. The building is simple, with plain walls and sturdy wooden desks that have been around for quite a few years. We don't have any big corporate gloss here; it’s just a place for learning. The teachers walk from room to room with their registers tucked under their arms, and you can hear them explaining things in a mix of English and the local tongue. In the afternoons, the sun hits the courtyard in a way that makes everyone want to go outside, but there’s usually more work to be done. We keep a close eye on the gate to make sure the kids stay safe until their parents come to collect them. Sometimes a stray dog wanders near the entrance, or a tractor passes by on the road, adding to the daily sounds of Tandur. It’s a practical sort of place where the focus is just on getting through the syllabus and making sure the children know their basics before they head home for the evening.
