Thirupullani Vayalaga Jeevidam Farmers Producer Company Limited is located right on the first floor of the IOB Bank building in Thiruppullani. It is a simple office where we spend our time talking about the fields and the crops we grow in Ramanathapuram. If you know this area, you know how the sun can be quite tough on the land. We are a group of farmers who decided to stick together to see if we could make our lives a bit more manageable. Most of us have been farming for as long as we can remember, following what our fathers did before us. Being in the bank building makes it easy for people to find us when they come into town for their errands. It isn't a place with fancy furniture or big signs. We just have what we need to keep track of the work. Sometimes the office is full of people and other times it’s just one person keeping watch. We deal with whatever the season brings, whether it’s a dry spell or a good rain. It is a local effort, through and through. Everyone knows everyone else around here, so things are done based on trust and long conversations. We just want to make sure the farming keeps going for the next generation. It’s a quiet life mostly, centered around the land and the people who work it in Ramanathapuram. It feels right to be doing this together rather than trying to struggle alone in the heat.
