Uma Prasad Clinic

Shivaji Nagar is a bit of a maze if you aren't from around here, so we have to give very specific directions to everyone. We tell people to look for the MJM Hospital and the ICICI Bank on Ghole Road, because there’s a small lane tucked between them. That’s where you’ll find the Uma Prasad Clinic, inside the Asmita Apartments at number 1194. It’s a quiet little pocket in a very busy part of the city. We’ve been tucked away here on Thopte Path for years, and the street is so narrow that it feels very private and removed from the main road traffic. Inside the clinic, the walls are a bit faded and we still have the same old wooden furniture in the waiting area that we started with. It feels more like a family home than a cold medical office. We see a lot of people from the neighborhood who just walk over from their own flats. The office is small, and we have a single window that looks out onto the inner courtyard of the apartment building. You can often hear birds or the sound of someone’s radio playing nearby. It’s a very different vibe from the big, shiny hospitals downtown. We just do our consultations, write out our notes by hand, and spend time talking to the patients about their lives. It’s a slow-paced kind of place, and that’s how we like to keep it.
