Tongaonkar Hospital

We are based at Plot No 17, Survey No 47, right on the Mumbai Pune Road in Akurdi. This hospital has been a part of the local landscape for a long time now. Being on such a major road means there is always a lot of noise from the trucks and buses passing by, but you eventually stop noticing it after a few weeks of working here. The building is fairly large and has several floors where different departments are located. Inside, the lobby is where most people gather, and it can get quite loud when there are a lot of families waiting together on those metal chairs. We have a simple way of doing things here, focusing on the day-to-day tasks of seeing patients and keeping the place running as smoothly as possible. The staff is mostly made up of people from around the Pune and Akurdi area, so there is a local feel to the way we talk and work. We don't use any fancy management systems; it’s mostly just paper files and hard work. The afternoon sun can make the upper floors quite warm, so we keep the fans going all day long. Most of our time is spent walking between the different rooms and making sure the doctors have what they need for the next person. It’s a straightforward, busy hospital that has seen thousands of people come through its doors. We are just a group of people working together in this building in Akurdi.
