Snow Washers & Dry Cleaners is right in the heart of Karve Nagar. If you walk past our door, you’ll usually feel a blast of hot, humid air from the steam irons. It’s always warm in here, even in the winter, which is nice then but pretty tough in the summer. We’ve got rows of clothes hanging on the racks, and I spend a lot of my time trying to read the faint handwriting on the tags we pin to the shirts. I took this place over from a friend who wanted to move back to his village. I didn’t know much about dry cleaning at first, but you learn quickly when people are trusting you with their expensive suits and wedding saris. We have one old washing machine that makes a loud banging noise during the spin cycle, but it still cleans better than the new ones. My wife helps out with the accounts in the evenings, though she complains about the lint that gets on everything. We aren't a big chain with fancy plastic bags. We just use simple hangers and paper wrap. Sometimes we get a stain that just won't come out no matter what we try, and having to tell the customer is the worst part of the job. But mostly, people are happy to get their clothes back fresh and pressed. It’s a steady rhythm of washing, drying, and folding that fills our days.
