I've been sitting here at Nana Peth for a long time now. Most days, you can hear the trucks zooming past on National Highway No 8. It gets pretty loud, especially in the afternoons when the traffic picks up. Our place at 230-1 isn't fancy or anything. It’s just where we keep the plastic goods. Sometimes the dust from the highway comes right inside, so we spend a lot of time just wiping things down. My father used to say that being near the highway was good for business, but it sure is noisy. We have people stop by who are just passing through, and then we have the regulars from the neighborhood. Shree Karni Plastic has been our life for years. We don't have a big office with air conditioning. It’s just a desk, some chairs, and stacks of whatever we have in stock that week. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside on the steps until it comes back. It's a simple way to make a living. You get to know the other shopkeepers around here pretty well. We share tea and complain about the heat. It’s not like those big corporate places you see in the city. We just do our work, talk to the customers, and go home when the sun sets. Nothing more to it than that, really. It is hard work, but it is what we know.
