Down at Shop No 3 in the Sai Complex in Yerwada, you’ll find Shirin Dairy. It’s a small shop, but we stay busy from early in the morning. People start coming in for their milk and curd before the sun is even fully up. We have to be here to receive the deliveries and get everything set up in the coolers. It’s a lot of lifting crates and making sure everything is fresh. The tile floor is always a bit damp from cleaning, and there's that faint smell of cold milk in the air. We’ve been in the Sai Complex for quite a while now. Most of our customers are regulars who live in the surrounding buildings. They come in for their daily essentials and we usually have a quick chat about the weather or the local news. It’s not a fancy place with neon lights. It’s just a dairy. We have a few refrigerators that hum all day long. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to scramble, but that’s just part of life here in Yerwada. We keep things simple and try to make sure no one leaves without what they came for. It’s hard work and the hours are long, but we like being the local spot where people get their basics. My apron usually has a few splashes on it by noon. It's just a regular local business run by regular people who care about their neighborhood.
