Sassoon Hospital

Being near Pune Railway Station means this place never actually sleeps. Jai Prakash Narayan Road is one of the busiest streets you’ll ever see, and Sassoon Hospital is right in the middle of that chaos. I walk past the station entrance every morning and the crowd is just massive. People arrive by train from everywhere, and a lot of them end up here for one reason or another. The hospital is huge, with long corridors that seem to go on forever. It’s an old place, and you can feel the history in the thick walls and the high ceilings. There’s always a crowd by the main gates, people holding bags and waiting for news. It’s a public place, so it’s always full, and sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming with the number of patients. We have doctors and nurses rushing around, and the sound of trolleys clicking on the floor is constant. It’s not the kind of place where you get a private room with a view. It’s crowded and loud, and the smell of car exhaust from the road mixes with the hospital smells. But it’s where everyone goes when they have no other choice. We just try to keep things moving as fast as we can. It’s a tough job in a very busy part of Pune, and we just take it one shift at a time.
