Sara Beauty Parlour

Bhawani Peth is a very busy place to have a shop. We are right here in the middle of everything at Sara Beauty Parlour. It is a straightforward little place for the neighborhood. We do not have much, just the chairs, the mirrors, and our kits. Most of the day is spent doing threading or cutting hair for the women who live in this part of Pune. The 411042 area is a crowded spot, so there is always someone walking past the door or looking in. We keep the door open mostly, so we can see the street and get some air. It is not a fancy salon with a receptionist or a waiting list. You just walk in, and if we are busy, you wait on the bench. We talk about the daily news or whatever is happening in the Peth while we work. The work is repetitive but we like doing it. Our hands are always busy with something, whether it is a comb or a bottle of polish. In the afternoons, when it gets really hot, things slow down a bit and we sit under the fan with some cold water. Then the evening rush starts when everyone is heading home from work or the market. We stay open until it is dark. The floor gets covered in hair and we sweep it up at the end of every shift. We have been in Bhawani Peth long enough to know the local rhythms.
