You can find our place over on Ashram Road in Uruli Kanchan, which falls under the Haveli taluka. We are set up at Shri Prakash Gopalkrushna Pardeshi’s location. Prakash Agro Coldstorage Private Limited is basically exactly what it says on the sign out front. We provide a place for people to keep their produce cool so it doesn’t rot before it can be sold at the market. In this heat, having a reliable cold storage is pretty much a necessity for any farmer around Uruli Kanchan. We spend a lot of our time monitoring the temperatures and making sure the machinery is running like it should. It is not the most exciting job, but it is very important. The floor is always a bit chilly, which is actually a nice break from the hot sun outside. We see a lot of different people coming in and out with crates of fruit and vegetables all day. My nephew helps me with the loading and unloading when it gets busy. We don’t have a big corporate structure here. It’s just a few of us making sure the power stays on and the doors are locked tight at night. Sometimes the trucks arrive late, and we have to be there to let them in regardless of the time. It’s a lot of waiting around sometimes, but we’ve got a small bench outside where we sit and talk.
