We’ve been doing this packing and moving thing here at 46/23 Nigdi Gota Gam for a while now. It’s a lot of work, mostly just loading boxes and trying to make sure everything fits into the back of the truck without breaking. Some days the sun is really hitting the pavement hard in Nigdi and we are just sweating through our shirts while carrying heavy wooden cupboards down narrow stairs. It’s not easy work but someone has to do it. We have a few guys who have been with us for years. They know how to wrap things so they don’t rattle too much. Usually, the phone starts ringing early in the morning with people asking if we can come over right away. We try to get there when we say we will, but the traffic around Gota Gam can be a mess sometimes. We keep our tape and blankets in the corner of the shop. It’s a bit cluttered in here honestly. People drop by to ask for prices and we just write it down on whatever scrap of paper is nearby. We don’t have any fancy systems. We just remember who needs to go where. Sometimes we help families move just a few streets over and other times it’s a whole different part of the city. We just keep the trucks moving and try to get the day done so we can go home and rest our backs.
