The shop is at 21/1 Baner Road, right where it meets B B Road. It’s a corner that sees a lot of heavy trucks and traffic throughout the day. We deal with bearings, so the place always has that faint smell of machine oil and cold steel. There are shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, filled with boxes of all different sizes. Most of them are heavy. My hands are usually a bit stained with grease by the time lunchtime rolls around. It’s hard to get it off completely. We have a heavy metal counter where we show the parts to people who come in. The surface is all scratched up from years of sliding metal across it. The lighting isn't the best, just a couple of long tube lights that flicker once in a while. Outside, the road is always being worked on it seems. There is a lot of dust that comes in, so we have to wipe down the boxes constantly. It is physical work, moving those crates around and making sure we have the right numbers in stock. We don’t have a computer system that’s very advanced, mostly just notebooks and a lot of memory. You get to know the parts by sight after a few years. It’s a steady kind of business, not very glamorous but it keeps the machines running.
