If you go to At Postkhutbav in the Daund taluka, you’ll find us at Bhausaheb Pandurang Kate’s place. It’s a rural area in Pune district, and maize is a big deal around here. We decided to start this trading business because we are right in the middle of where everything grows. The office is basically part of the house and the storage areas nearby. There’s usually a bit of dust in the air from the fields and the trucks passing by. We don’t have fancy furniture or a glass door. It’s more about being close to the farmers and the grain. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the maize and talking to the drivers. Daund can get very hot, so the afternoons are usually a bit slow until it cools down. We use old-fashioned ledgers sometimes along with the computer because it’s just easier when you’re out in the yard. Bhausaheb is usually around to keep an eye on things. It’s a family-style environment where everyone knows what needs to be done. We don't spend money on advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here and that we trade maize. We deal with what the season gives us. Some years are better than others, but we just stay consistent with our work here in Khutbav.
