If you ever head down to the Market Yard in Gultekdi, you can look for Gala No. 671. That is exactly where India Fruits Trading Company is located. We are situated right next to the Ganesh Patpedi Bank, which is a good landmark if you’re lost. The market is like a whole different world, especially in the very early hours of the morning when the big trucks start rolling in from the farms. We’ve been working out of this spot for many years, dealing with all sorts of seasonal fruits. It is a loud, messy, and very energetic place to spend your day. Our gala is usually stacked high with wooden crates and plastic bins. We spend almost all of our time on our feet, talking to the farmers who bring the produce and the retailers who buy it. There is no air conditioning or fancy office chairs here. We just use old wooden desks and keep our paper ledgers handy to track everything. The smell of fresh fruit is everywhere, which is honestly one of the best parts of working here. Being right next to the bank is very convenient because it makes it much easier for us to handle the cash side of the daily trading. We don't have a website or a dedicated marketing person to promote us. We just rely on the long-term relationships we’ve built up over the decades. Most people in the yard know they can always find us at 671. It is a very hard-working environment and we see the sunrise almost every single day. It’s not for everyone, but it is what we do.
